Repair Permissions found quite a lot to fix when I applied the 10.6.1
upgrade - suggest you don't omit this step.

Odd. I just tried this, on the basis of your suggestion, and found only
one file (private/etc/postfix/main.cf.default) reported fixed, plus two
SUID files in System/Library not fixed as having been modified.

The only permissions repaired on mine were all Flash Player.plugin
files.

But I did get two warnings:

Warning: SUID file
"System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacO
S/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file
"System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions
/A/Resources/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.

I know the first is for Apple Remote Desktop, but I'm not clear on the
second warning, or why I got both.

I got this one as well just the one...

"System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions
/A/Resources/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.

I had a whole bunch of them, but all but one were about the Adobe plugin.

I repaired permissions before I installed 10.6.1 and got a lot about
Flash. After the install there were only the two warnings already
mentioned.
(Combo Updater; I had the newest Flash installed a few days ago.)

I repaired permissions on my work Mac, and saw a couple dozen changes.
All were related to Flash.

I see these and other similar ones, too. Apple has said you can safely
ignore them. Someone somewhere (sorry, I can't remember) posted a
comment that you could get rid of them by re-applying the latest combo
updater. I haven't tried it.

RE the warning while repairing permissions under 10.6.1:
"Warning: SUID file
"System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Locum"
has been modified and will not be repaired."

After upgrading from 10.6 to 10.6.1, I used Disk Utility to
repair permissions, and this was the ONLY alert I received.

NOTHING else needed "repair".

Never saw that before....

Then you've been lucky.
The warning will persist at least until you apply another update,
perhaps beyond; but, as mentioned, apple says to ignore it.
