Hi there,

I was playing with my computers and noticed to following, can someone
explain please?

--
I had a 32 MB sim (its called?) in my SS4. In my SS5 I had 8 * 8 MB sims.
- anyone should thing to following - So I thought: 4 * 8 + 32 > 64...

Unfortunatly, when I put the 32 MB sim in the SS5 it is going to beep when
its turned on. Nothing else happens. (Well my phone rang but that
shouldnt be to important)

When I remove the 32MB sim it will normally start and I can do stop-a and
a memory test.
--

Why is it that a sim that can be used in a SS4 doesnt work in it's
successor (SS5)?

- Tom

SS5 only has 8 memory slots, so the mas config you can have with your
memories now is 32M + 7 x 8M.

Remove all the 8Ms then put the 32M into Slot 0 which is the one closest
to the SBus slots(your SS5 won't boot if you put the RAM in the wrong
slot), try booting it, if it works, put the rest of 8Ms back in.

If you have older version of Solaris, you have to place the largest RAM
in Slot 0

It should work really, I had an SS5 with 8 x 32M in it.

The SS4 actually came after the SS5 - it was a stripped down version of
the previous model.
