As far as I was aware, there was nothing faster than the 200 MHz
hypersparc processors for that machine.

I never even heard of a 400 MHz processor for a Sun SparcStation 20.
(Ive had a few SS20's myself).

It could be a mis-print, or it could mean a pair of 200MHz chips, but i
doubt there was a 400 MHz processor for them.

Yeah, it's a misprint. Guess that one slipped by the technical q/a ;P

That is a strange document, as half the time it appears to be
referring to the Ultra-2 machines instead of the SS-20 -- including the
description of installing and removing a creator-3D UPA interface
framebuffer.

The Ultra-2 has only Sbus and Mbus slots (the latter for the
CPUs), and no UPA slots.

And the board number above shows as an Ultra-2 in the FEH. It
has one UPA slot for the framebuffer, four Sbus slots, and two
(different) UPA slots for the CPUs.

So -- it seems that someone got confused, or someone uploaded a
merged (doctored) document to their site as a joke.

Enjoy,
DoN.

Could it be that this board was an upgrade option to convert a
4m Sparc-20 to a 4u Ultra-2 reusing the 20's case, PS, disks, etc?
I.o.w., an Ultra-2 board that mechanically fits into a Sparc-20 case?

Not based on the drawings in the FEH. Very different form
factor. And the FEH shows the board in question as explicitly for the
Ultra-2, the Netra and Netra NFS.

The board in question has two 80-pin SCA SCSI connectors on the
edge to accept drives plugged in through special guides in the chassis,
plus a 68-pin SCSI connector on the back of the system.

The standard SS-20 board has a SCSI connector and a floppy
connector right by the power connector, and a 50-pin SCSI connector on
the back of the system.

If you have the FEH (Field Engineer's Handbook), look at the
drawings for the 501-3132 system board for the Ultra 2 (There is an
earlier board for the Ultra-2 with the same format, but not as fast
apparently) and the drawings for the SS-20's 501-2324, 501-2924, and
501-2961.

If you don't have the FEH, look at the Australian site which has
it on-line.

Ultra-2:
http://www.sunshack.org/data/sh/2.1/...tra2.html#3132

SS-20:
http://www.sunshack.org/data/sh/2.1/...tation_20.html

Enjoy,
DoN.

Didn't know about that, will have a look at it sometime.

Hopefully so,
