5100cn Printer Error

I'm getting messages to replace the fuser units on our networked Dell 5100cn
Laser
printers soon.

When I put in a new fuser, I get the message "10-397 Restart Printer" and I
can't print
to them. I've tried five different printers and six brand-new fuser units
right out of
sealed Dell boxes. All the printers give the same message! When I put the
old fusers
back in, the printers will work again but still give the message that the
fuser unit needs
to be replaced soon.

Dell says the mainboard of the printer is bad (so why does the old
fuser work fine?) and will need replacing at just about the cost of a new
printer.
I'm not convinced that this will solve the problem anyway. I Goggled and
the only
solution I could find was to leave the printer unplugged for at least
fifteen minutes
before putting in the new fuser and then plugging it back in and turning it
on.
Since I'm posting here, you know that didn't work. Has anyone here been
able to
make this 10-397 message go away and use the new fuser? If so, how did you
do
it??? I'd hate to have to buy new printers and waste our investment in
toner
cartridges, and fusers if I can find a relatively simple solution. Please
help!

Thanks for the suggestion! I really thought that might do it but
alas, still no. At least the error message is more detailed now
and says to reseat the fuser which it didn't do before. I've reseated
the fuser so many times, I'm surprised I haven't worn out the contacts!

Once you put the new fuser in have you told the printer that you have
replaced the fuser in the control panel?

I can't get the menu to display. The 10-397 Restart Printer and Reseat
Fuser messages keep alternating. None of the panel buttons work.
I even tried holding down the Menu and Cancel buttons while powering
on the printer.
