Hi there,

ECS K7S5A
AMD Athlon 1700+
Asus GeForce MX 16MB AGP
Creative SB Live
Linksys 10/100 NIC
512 MB DDR AZENRAM

The problem is, I cannot reset the system after it has been running for 15
minutes, or I'll get the dreaded 8 beeps at post (video card error). If I
wait 15 minutes to cool down, it will work fine. I have a very good CPU
cooler, and even added a case fan as well, it will not help. The system
runs fairly cool, 32C in case, 41C CPU. Is this just the reality of a cheap
motherboard? The video card works fine in any other system. I have moved
it, pushed it, etc many times. It is seated very well. I have tried a few
different power supply's, now running on an Antec 400W. It seems to me the
problem is a cheap AGP slot, or poor contacts when it is warm. Is there any
hope to resolve this?

I think the problem may be the ASUS card maybe the board doesn't supply the
right voltage for that card. Got another PCI or borrowed AGP video to try?
Haven't heard of many problems with K7SA5 and AGP cards. Maybe a connector
on the card is chipped or you still haven't seated the AGP correctly. I
think it has a lock in mechanism when seated, if you can remove the card
without moving the lock the card isn't seated.

My first thought in speculation is...

You have a high speed fan for a CPU cooler and it is plugged into the
motherboard drawing too much energy for a soft boot. In other words your
drawing the current needed to get that video card kicked into gear.

My second thought would be BIOS setup wrong/or outdated with a fix on the
website.

My third thought would be your board is not grounded properly inside the
case.
