Hi

Fresh new set of a bit out-dated set of Intel 850GB mainboard with P4 1.5GHz
wonīt do simply anything, no boot, no POST beeps, no video.
I have tried to play with bios jumper too, no help. Power is okay for sure,
drives and fans are getting power too.
Actually, fan connector for processor (between rimms and cpu) does not give
any power but the connector for case fan (top corner of board) does !

Green led on the board works. Power button and power led works, drives are
started when button pressed.
Currently I have removed everything except 4x64MB identical Samsung Rimms
and cpu itself and inserted good-old S3 Trio PCI display adapter.
Mainboard is loose and sits on a big fat envelope on the table so no
shortcuts to case for sure ! (Okay whole computer was first assembled but of
course not lucky enough for the first time)

I am lost. I just wonīt accept that it is broken, after so many DIY PCīs
this would be first one...

Janne

Does this motherboard need the additional 12 V ATX power connection?

Yes, as P4 mainboards usually does, there is totally 3 different
connections/connectors for atx power.

PCI video card. Possible to enter bios configuration setup or force entry
into bios setup? May need to set bios for PCI card vs. AGP card. Can't
remember --- it has been some time since last setting up an Intel mobo.

Well that could be true, it just that I donīt have available any newer AGP
card fitting to 2x/4x 1.5v connector => need to get one !
Thanks for tip.

Hi Janne,

Were you able to identify and resolve the issue?
I have the same configuration and am facing exactly the same problem. Infact I even tried another AGP card however it still didnt work.
Would appreciate your advise on how you solved the problem at your end.

Hi there Rajkumar Pandey, I hope we can help each other. I bought an Intel 850GB w/1.5 Ghz CPU in 2001, used it for 3 years and something whacked out; I think it was the power supply but never checked it out until about 3 weeks ago when I decided to try a resurrection of the board & CPU (today's date is July 14, 2007.) Now this is almost too strange: I have the same Momboard as "Janne" and the exact same electrical problem, and am using the same S3 video card. Wild! I used an Nvidia 400MX AGP video card in the 850GB for the 3 years and tried it first with the resurrection but after getting no video I thought I'd try the S3, but that hasn't made a difference. So, here I am. stuck. Since Janne, you and I had/have the same problem, and it's not likely we're gonna hear from her/him now, I reckon it's up to you and I to figure this thing out. I'm using an Antec SmartPower 500-watt PSU, brand new. which I also tested with a PSU tester. Everything looks OK with the CPU. Now, I noticed a PC/PCI 5 prong connector (5 prongs + 1 emply hole, the proper name might be 6-prong) just behind No. 1 & 2 PCI slots, counting from the AGP then down (1,2). I have nothing hooked up there and don't remember if I did before. I also don't have anything connected to the Auxillary power connector (6 prongs, just above the 2 IDE connectors.) I'm assuming that you've been to the Intel web site and have found the data posted for the 850GB momboard under "Archived Motherboards"; if not, it has a wealth of data, like no other motherboard manufacturer I've seen. I'm beginning to wonder if our CPUs are bad? Anyway, I hope you read this and let me know your thoughts and experiences. Thanks.
Sincerely,
Das kriegschwein
