I ran several passes of memtest86 and the ram 'seems' to be ok.

However the computer crashes in XP and sometimes reboots.

I have an old ASUS A8S-X Motherboard and have installed 1gb of ram [it
already had 1gb of ram so this makes 2gb of ram, they are identical
models too]

The slots I placed these [2] 1gb modules in are Black and Blue, the
ones fartherest from the CPU.

Their are 4 total slots for this board, 2 blue and 2 black.

Did I make a mistake in not placing these 2 modules in the same color?
Was I suppose to place these modules into the blue slots?
The two blue slots are nearest the cpu.
The manual makes no mention of this but then again the manual sucks
about details.

The dimm modules are list in this order [as you go away from the CPU]

A1
A2

B1
B2

Here is an image of my motherboard, sorry I didn't post this first.

Please help if you can, this is driving me crazy.

Hi Robert,

The 2 colors of memory banks lets you select dual-channel or single
channel memory mode (see the manual on how to).
Also test each memory module separate with MEMTEST and with bios
defaults on the timings etc.
If this does not give an error, try testing each module separate with
your currnet OS installation.
If one of the modules causes your computer to crash, you probably do
have a faulty module.

(in case of missing manual:

It probably does not harm. Just 'RTFM', here you will be able to read
about the different colours of the banks.
An other thing I did not mention is the PSU. Often a faulty PSU can
cause a variety of errors in PC's. Test with a good PSU, to see if this
also causes the error's you mentioned.

They should both be in the blue slots.
