I'm new to newsgroups. I realize this issue has been covered before, but
I have not been able to find any info on it by searching this newsgroup.
I would like to know; How do I remove resister #256? I have found it on
my motherboard but it is very tiny even with a magnifier. I found info
on it at Google groups about this Post Code Display, A7. All I find is
that ABIT says to remove resister #256. Everything in this computer is
brand new, but totally unusable. Can anyone tell me? I would appreciate
it greatly. Thanks, Jon

Whoa. This is one of those questions where if you don't know the answer, you
shouldn't really be asking. What makes you think you need to remove it?

Don't start messing around with things like this on a new board. If you
don't know what you're doing (and with respect, it doesn't sound like you
do), you could easily make things worse.

In any case, the A7 error is normally caused by bad or
incorrectly/insufficiently seated memory. There shouldn't be any need to
remove components from your motherboard to make the system work. Start by
making sure the memory if firmly (and I mean firmly) seated in its socket.
If you have more than one stick, try one at a time and so-on.

Hi Richard, Well I read quite a few posts at Google groups and that was
ABIT's solution to the A7 post code display problem/fiasco. ABIT tells
you what to do, but not how to do it. Guess they just figure everyone
else in the world knows how to remove factory components on a
motherboard. I have reseated my RAM but the same thing happens. Jon

This problem occured on many/most IT7/IT7E that used a 133FSB. It's caused
by the bios incorrectly setting frequency. I never tried the resistor but
manually setting frequency in the bios works for me.
Set the soft menu as follows: (Not exact wording)
CPU OPERATING SPEED USER DEFINED (Set to133)
EXT CLOCK 133/66/33
PCI BUS 33 (FIXED)
DRAM RATIO HW LOW
DRAM RATIO CPU/MEMORY 1:1
