Hi All!

I need to set up a MSA1000 connected via fibre channel switch (1000
MSA SAN G2) to 4 indipendent Windows Server 2003 EE Proliant servers.
I need to access the MSA from each server, so I created a RAID5 volume
+ hot spare using all the 14 hd of the SAN and I assigned the same
letter to the volume on all the servers.
Now, I think that this configuration may be wrong, because of the
volume is a shared hardware resource, but the servers aren't
configured in a cluster. For example, if I open a file in write mode
from the first server, the other servers doesn't know that the file is
already open and may try to open it too. Is this right?
If this configuration is wrong, what configuration would be right? I
need to set up a cluster in load balanced mode? (all server active)

thank you
Danilo

Do a training course / read a manual / hire a consultant or contractor who
knows what they're doing and can sort the mess out before you flush your
data down the pan :-(
