i recently purchased an lg monitor for my laptop - long story, lc
screen is half- viewable. the only way i can get the external monio
to display is by extending the desktop over to 2 screens. for som
reason i cannot make the disable the laptop screen as the primar
monitor.any help would be much appreciated. cheer

Are you trying to configure your monitors using Windows settings or
your graphics card software? You should be doing the latter. Also, from
what I've seen and for reasons that apparently have no known
explanation, on some configurations it is not possible to make the
external monitor primary. Still, assuming your graphics card supports
this, you should be able to make the external monitor secondary and use
it completely.

I've noticed that sometimes the Window settings don't get translated
properly to the device's software, so I always use the card's "real"
software for any chanegs to the settings.

I happen to own one laptop with a Mobility Radeon, but I haven't been
near it for some time. BUT, if I rememebr correctly, there was enough
software associated with this early model to please anybody, excluding
3-D gamers. I'd expect no less with more recent models.

I'd go to the ATI website and locate all downloads for my device and
install it - paying attention to driver versions. I'd be very surprised
if there were no provisions for controlling monitor configuration.

I have an LG monitor that does some really squirrely things unless it is
set for 60hz refresh. Also, orient the little monitor, 2, on the
display settings to move the origin (the top-left corner) to move the
displayed content. The global origin is the top-left corner of the main
monitor.

I've never tried this, but can you move monitor 2 over the top of
monitor 1 in the display properties, matching either the top, left
corners or the bottom, left corners? This works on my desktop ATI X600.

Q

One thing you may look at, check the system bios on bootup, there'
probably a setting in there telling the computer how to address th
2nd monitor. Mine is set to disable the notebooks when the externa
VGA plug is in. My Pavilion offers the options of running both a
the same time, or one or the other. You may want to check that out

Also, In Windows, you should be able to make any the default yo
choose by dragging it into the number one position
