I boughtt a Dell monitor (E228WFP LCD), that has 1680x1050 resolution
and Digital DVI-D with HDCP connectors..

The PC I'm taggin' the monitor to an HP Pavilion 762N running windows
XP.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...cname=bph07553

and it has a GeForceMX420 Video card (no DVI connection that I can see)

http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce4mx.html

I kinda blew the bank on the monitor, so I don't have alot of $$$ to
spend - can anyone make a recommendation on a video card that will do
this LCD monitor justice ? I figure I should at least be using the DVI
connection ? I think the current vid card is in the AGP slot. And I
don't think the Mobo in the 762N supports PCI-X ? But I don't know what
I'm talking about, so any help is appreciated.

also, is there a way to attach this monitor to a Wii ?

thanks ...

The 762n has an AGP slot, not a PCI-X slot. FWIW, I have been using a Diamond
Stealth S80 AGP card with ATI Radeon 9200 graphics chip and 128MB of memory with
my Hitachi LCD monitor and DVI connector. The Stealth S80 should be modestly
priced, altho I have not check its price lately. It is also relatively modest
in performance, and gets poo-pooed regularly by gamers. But if you don't play
video games, no problem. (The MX420 is similarly modest in performance.)

The images on my LCD monitor are much crisper with DVI instead of the 15-pin
SVGA analog connector.

As for Wii, I have no clue... Ben Myers

Does the Radeon card have a DVI connector? If so, I would go for it. In my
experience, cards with nVidia chips tend to run very hot. If the cooling fan
on the card is really cheap or it gets clogged up with dust and dirt, the chip
overheats and the card fails. I have also replaced nVidia chip cards which
develop gradual non-catastrophic failures, displaying strange artifacts on the
screen... Ben Myers
