Installed a 5610 with associated software (Digital Imaging Monitor, Hp
Solution Center, HP Photosmart essential) onto an XP SP2 PC. Now the darn PC
will not shutdown, I have to power it off by the switch instead of via the
Op.Sys.

I installed it by the book, not connecting the USB until it tells you to do
so...but the result is no more shutdowns via XP.

The only thing I did (possibly) wrong was to connect the USB cable to a USB
port and not a USB2 port during the install.

I don't want to simply try the printer in the USB2 port just in case it
messes the installed software up and nothing works. As I've read the
software is a bitch to de-install leaving behind all sorts of crap in the
registry?!?!?!

Asking.... is there a simple answer I have overlooked on this one?

Try installing the MS utility UPHClean that addresses this kind of problem:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

It is safe to use and likely will solve your problem.
