Alias that cannot have its name changed?

I was just going through my hard drive catalog. There is an alias
entitled "User Guides And Information." I wanted to change its name to
something more meaningful to me. I could not. To move to the trash, I
would have to use my password. I was able to duplicate the alias and
change its name easily. The new alias worked.

I looked at information for the two aliases, original and copy. In the
original, the "Locked" box was grayed out while the copy had an active
Locked box.

What is that all about? How can one change the status of such a box?

The file didn't belong to your account. Sometimes you can change
ownership in the "Get Info" window's "Sharing & Permissions" area. It's
a bit buggy.

It is now too late for me to try some of these things out. After making
a copy, I did use my password to move the alias to the Trash. When I
moved it to the Desktop, I could do all kinds of things with it.

Thank you.
