I recently did a clean install of Windows XP on my Inspiron 1200, and
after downloading and installing all the necessary drivers from the
Dell Website I now have a clean system that works very well. But in
device manager one device is showing up as not having a driver
installed. It's listed as a Video Controller, its location is PCI bus
0, device 2, function 1, and in the details section its Device
instance Id is listed as: PCI
\VEN_8086&DEV_2792&SUBSYS_01A61028&REV_03\3&61AAA0 1&0&11

Does anyone know what this device is? Can I safely disable it?

Sal,
Did you install your Video Driver for this unit? Check the CD's that were
sent with your notebook, there is a driver that is listed on Dell website,
it might be an update for your notebook. Look up your notebook, using the
service tag found on the sticker on the bottom of the unit.

Do not disable it. The VEN_8086 is the vendor code for Intel, and the
subsystem is the on-board video, which still works somewhat even without proper
drivers.

First, install the chipset drivers for the motherboard. Then install the video
drivers. Both can be found on the Dell web site... Ben Myers

I downloaded and installed all the latest drivers from the Dell
Website in the order suggested by Dell, starting with the chipset
drivers. I then installed the Intel Graphics Video driver for 915GM-
based systems, R128346.EXE. The other driver, R143248.EXE, is for the
Sonic Solutions CinePlayer 3.x, which is not installed on my system. I
tried installing the driver anyway but received an error because the
software wasn't installed.
