When I save a document in Appleworks (v6) in html format the format
tags are visible when it is viewed with a browser. What am I doing
wrong?

..html
the only option available in the "save as" pull down menu

I just created a document with AW 6.2.9 and in the Save As dialog, I
chose HTML from the File Format popup menu. It did not automatically
add an extension to the file name. The "Hide Extension" check box was
disabled, and remained disabled even after I typed an extension.

Typing ".html" as the extension and saving the document resulted with an
AppleWorks Text document.

Opening this file in AppleWorks or TextWrangler shows all the HTML
headers and tags, but opening it in Safari, Pages, or TextEdit does not
show the tags.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. On retrying the "save as" option I
added the html extension in the title bar and also tried it not adding
the extension in the title bar. In both cases the "hide extension"
square was left blank. The file opened fine without tags showing in
both cases with Safari and with Opera. Mozilla and Firefox would
succeed only when I added the html extension in the title bar. W/O
extension added both asked what application to use to open and when I
selected Mozilla i was contulally asked the same question over and over
again... sort of circular
response. Firefox did the same. For some unknown reason I could not
duplicate my original
problem of html tags being visible.
