Asrock question

Just upgraded my PC with an Asrock K7VT4a+ mobo and a Sempron 2600+
CPU. All working fine but the box says there is a thing called "Hybrid
Booster" which should allow you to play with the CPU settings. Can't
find it anywhere on the CD and it appears that although Asrock talk
about it on their website it isn't a download?

Any clues?

TIA

cheers,
Len

It means you can change the settings in the bios. But the Sempron is
multiplier locked, so all you can do to increase speed is to raise the
FSB. Now since your board doesn't support anything over 166MHz officially,
that presents a problem trying to get the most out of the Sempron which
runs on a 166MHz FSB by default. So, if you can get a refund on the
Sempron, do so, and get an XP or XP-M, or anyithing besides a socket A
Sempron with that board. At most. you probably won't get more than 185MHz
out of the FSB. See Sempron in link below. It will explain why no one
should ever buy a Sempron unless they actually know what they are buying.

Actually this board will wind the FSB well over 200Mhz!! I'm currently
running it at 187 and it's solid!
Plus the memory will run at 400Mhz if you've got DDR400!

You can try making a mobile out of your sempron by closing one bridge, then
you can see if you can set the multiplier using the jumpers (you'll have to
get some jumpers from a computer shop). It reportedly might work on a
totally locked amd:

Set it to 200 and see what happens. Unless they added a 6 divider, it'll
put the PCI bus at 40Mhz and the AGP bus at 80MHz and that's going to be
too fast for most PCI/AGP devices. I haven't heard of any boards with the
KT400(A) chipsets being actually able to run a FSB of 200MHz even though
the bios may show as much as a 250Mhz setting.

DDR 400 runs on a 200MHz bus, not 400MHz.

You need to check this out if you think otheriwse.
