After running the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor they were some comments:

1. Realtek AC'97 Audio
After installing Windows Vista, this device will require an updated driver

2.Silicon Image SiI 3114 Soft Raid 5 Controller
No compatibility data for this device

3. NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller
No compatibility data for this device

Does these means that the ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe motherboard can not be used
with Windows Vista?

Has anyone loaded Vista onto this motherboard?

The CPU is 3200+ at 2.01 GHz
The memory is 1 GByte

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Charlie

It should run Vista...I am running Vista in an Nforce 4 Sli chipset.....ABIT
mobo
Use the Nvidea SATA controller....Update to the Vista Realtec Audio drivers
and Vista picked up the nForce Networkin Controller and loaded the drivers.
You will need to load the SATA drivers during the install and check the
Nvidea WEbsite for VIsta drivers which are available.
As for the Silicone Image Controller check their website for Vista drivers.

Same here. No problem with Vista on that motherboard.

I've installed Vista Ultimate on three systems. It went in perfect on a
clean install on an Abit IC7. It went in perfectly on my personal system, a
Striker Extreme (specs below).

I tried to do an upgrade from XP Pro SP2 to Vista Ultimate on an A8n32-SLI
Deluxe. Got the same Vista upgrade advisor message you quoted, all looks
good, so I proceed to do the upgrade, Vista takes 20 minutes or so to do the
upgrade, and on the final reboot it fails with a message to that effect and
proceeds to restore the previous OS... Surprisingly, the XP Pro OS restore
is good, and just to make sure I reload an image of the OS drive taken just
before the upgrade attempt... This box is a Nvidia RAID and SLI 7900GTX
setup, not a basic system, but you would think if it passes the Upgrade
Advisor assessment, it ought to work afterwards...

As they always say, "wait for SP1 (at least)" on any new Microsoft OS if you
know what's good for you... Remember too that clean installs ALWAYS go more
easily than upgrades, except after a clean install you spend two days
reinstalling all the applications that got blown out in the clean
install....

Vista is nice eye candy, and has some nice new functionality. With all the
torque my personal system has I really like the look, feel, and performance,
and it's stable (so far) but Microsoft still has a long way to go with this
OS.

Personal System Specs
Asus Striker Extreme
Quad Core X6700 at 2.66 GHz (stock speed for now)
2 eVGA 8800GTX 768-P2-N837-AR in SLI
2 Gb, Corsair Twin2X2048-6400C4PRO
2 WD1500ADFD Raptor 150 Gb Drives (C: and E: (non RAID))
Sony DRU810A Optical Drive (D
Windows Vista Ultimate
PSU - Coolermaster Real Power Pro 850W
Sitting on the other side of the room on Ethernet, an HP MediaVault with 1.1
Terabytes of additional storage

That was only good advice if we're talking about Windows 98.

With 2K, it took 4 service packs.

With XP, it took 2, and the second was basically a complete re-write.

With Vista, I'm thinking wait at least until 2, maybe 3 service packs,
or maybe Vista "second edition".

I don't disagree. It does take one to many rewrites/patches for them to get
it reasonably right, depending on OS iteration.
