Asus M2N-E BIOS Not ACPI Compliant?

To make a long story short...
Got this M2N-E about one year ago with BIOS # unknown (I didn't record what
it came with).
I installed Vista Ultimate without a hitch and it has run fine, until...

I started beta-testing various builds of Vista SP1 RC1 and got to the point
where it was time to wipe the partition and reinstall the OS.
Sometime over the past year, I updated the BIOS to 0802
Now, when I attempt to reinstall Vista, it refuses, telling me the BIOS is
not ACPI compliant. I updated the BIOS to 1202, thinking the new one might
help, but Vista still refuses to install, citing ACPI non-compliance.

Now, I'm sitting here looking at the M2N-E box, with the "Vista Premium
Ready!" sticker on it...

Any suggestions?

Have you gone into the BIOS and made sure that ACPI is enabled?

Yes. It indicates that it is enabled by default, and there is no option to
turn it off.

Asus' web site for downloads is off line as usual. I was going to
download the manual for your MB and see what it says. I'm not familiar
with the nVidia chipset, as I have an Intel based system. What you
should do is read your MB manual BIOS section and see if you've missed
any settings.

I think I've found the problem:

I posted this to a thread in a private group...

After proclaiming that the hardware could not be at fault, further
investigation reveals that the motherboard may be the culprit.
After successfully installing XP, I noticed a couple of anomalies:
The XP Restart dialog has Standby disabled. When the system is shut down,
the power does not go off automatically. Instead, I get the XP version of
the old Win 95 message: "It is now safe to turn off your computer".

I retried the Vista DVD, and instead of failing silently as before, I got a
dialog indicating the Vista could not be installed because the motherboard
BIOS is "not ACPI compliant".

I tried updating the BIOS with no positive results. During the process, I
discovered the CMOS battery was dead, and that a replacement drained in
hours (can you say "short"?).

I've RMA'd the motherboard and hope to have a replacement in 10 days or so
(Thank you Newegg!). Then, I'll start installing and testing again.

How about that. I would never have thought of something like that being
the problem. Thanks for coming back with the problem resolution.
Newegg should have a new MB to you fairly quickly, depending on where
it's shipped from and where you are. I've been dealing with them for
years. IMHO, they're the best.
