Hi!

sorry for the silly question!
anyways! could anyone tell me! if it is possible to set up the ram
memory with 2 different amount of ram?

My system :

P4 2.4G
asus P4S533-X ( only 2 DDR ram slots)
256 ram PC2700

I would like buy another 512 PC2700, so is it possible to install
===>

256 + 512
will this type of set up will damage the motherboard?

or should i always install 2 ram of the same amount!
like
256 + 256 or 512 + 512

thanks!
richard

you can install any combination up to 2048MB(1024MB per bank). Some
Motherboards however may require the biggest module to be installed in
the first bank. If you can you might try and buy the second module
from the same manufacturer as the first module. It's not an absolute
must but it does help reduce the chance of incompatibility.

hope this helps

Yes, you can install two different sizes of RAM, but it's best if they're
the same brand.

I would say that the speed would be reduced to the slower RAM speed,
so it might not be better to get the faster RAM. Of course, it'll be
good if you think you're gonna remove the slower one and add faster
RAM on next time.

thanks you all for the tips!

i will get a larger 512 ram and install it on the first slot!
and put the smaller 256 ram on the second slot!
my motherboard only can take up to PC2700(333) so i guess i will be
using the same type!

thanks again for the tips!
