I wonder if you can rent or lease a truck/suv (4 wheel drive/ AWD) for
6 months??? I never heard of this but if so, might solve your
problems or take public transportation if available. In NYC, cars are
a pain due to parking, etc.. and public transportation works best in
all weather.

I would consider public transportation at times but I'm not on a good
bus route. Renting would very likely be way too expensive. I'll
survive with my Matrix, it just isn't ideal. Maybe they still make
snow tires and I could change the front tires during winter season.

Yeah, I don't know either if they still make snow tires but way back
when I was living in NYC, changing to winter tires in winter time was
the norm (I think it was a law then too). I guess you could either
drop by a tire store or look on the net for snow tires especially
in your size.

Yep they do!!

Google Blizzak tires and you will see. Plus there are
other brands as well

I live in north Missouri and have thought abt gong back
to dedicated snow tires as well. Can only use them
during snow months ONLY as they are soft rubber and
will wear quick on dry pavement..... but I have heard
the traction is MUCH improved over all season tires.

I tried to talk you into getting that Subaru Outback a couple of years ago.
You sell the wagon?

Blizzaks are fantastic. I have a set on my station wagon and if I could
consistently get out of my driveway, I'd be just fine. It's very stable
even though it is rear wheel drive and has way too much power.

The driveway, however, forced me to buy an SUV

Not yet. Don't want to. It's fast and rare and fast.

Probably will.
