Well, you come to my home and tell me how to do it in this room and
make my wife happy not to use any floor real estate and I'll be glad
to consider your answer! So what time are you coming over to help
suggest a better idea?

Not quite as bad as a NYC yankee living his first year in Beaumont,
Texas (in my case approx 1980) and then moving to Houston. Talk about
an enlightening experience . Back then Beaumont was not a town
that welcomed outsiders especially from NYC and remember Beaumont is
pretty close to Vidor, Texas (if you don't know about Vidor, then I
won't get into it).

Now you are pretty close to me (I live in a west suburb of Houston) as
I'm about 2.25 hours from UT Austin where one of my daughters goes to
school.

How long have you been in Austin/Round Rock and how do you like it?

Moved here from Singapore and Toyko in 1995. Love it here (especially the
winter weather) and will never return to the Midwest Good people in that
part of the country though and a good place to raise a family. Both of my
kids graduated from the University of Iowa.

You need to remind your wife who is the boss! I have been training my
wife for the last 38 years and she minds pretty well now.

Well I do remind her who is the boss and she says she gives me
permission to be the boss until she says otherwise. I guess being
married for 26 years isn't enough and I need another 12 to get her
trained right <g>.

Wow -- I studied Japanese language and culture for 3 years as a hobby,
and was a conversational partner for Japanese students coming to the
U.S. to help them learn English. At one time I had many standing
offers to visit them in Japan, but I never went. It was still fun
learning another culture. I wish, though, that I had studied Spanish
instead.

I didn't know that Texans would give Yanks a hard time. However, when
someone from the South comes here, I am sure they get tired of people
commenting about their "southern drawl".

In Texas things must be bigger -- there are probably people wearing
big ugly cowboy hats, and pointy-toed cowboy boots, thinking they are
cowboys and listening to country music all the time. Home home on the
range, had a hard day's work on the ranch and now going home for my
steak and potatoes that my woman cooked up for me. If so, it would
drive me nuts. It's bad enough living in Wisconsin and having Packer
fanatics all around me.

Another installment of my politically incorrect series .....

I never understood that either...until I recently got bifocals. Now I
can't lean back comfortably in my easy chair without the bottom third
of the television screen being out of focus. So looks like I'm going
to have to wall mount the tv higher than normal. I still wouldn't
want to place it above a fireplace though - that would just look too
strange.
