What's the way to prevent an inserted CD from executing?

Say you just want to examine it.

In explorer right click the drive and select properties/autoplay

Hold down either Shift key while inserting it.

You can change the order of boot up hardware in the bios.

Ron, sorry I probably didn't answer you correctly in my earlier post a
few minutes ago because I didn't read your post entirely. I think you
can stop it manually from executing and then go into windows explorer
to examine the cd.

Holding down the shift key when inserting is said to suppress the
autorun, but I find on XP that you have to hold it down a long time,
'cos autorun takes so long to get going.
