A petroleum-based lubricant is not the answer. In lieu of any other
possibilities, you can use a silicon-based spray lubricant, spraying it on a
dry, lint-free preferably cotton cloth, and rubbing on the gears. Silicon
lubricants behave well in normal operating temperatures, and do not drip or run
when applied properly... Ben Myers
