I've heard that a 2500+ Barton Core does not need a heatsink/fan is
this true and why? or where can I find out.

I'm sure the heatsink/fan would be a good thing to have but is it safe
and effective to have a 2500+ Barton core wuthout them?

Thanks,
JJ

Absolutely UNTRUE. You will likely fry your processor if you do not have
*both* a heatsink and a fan.
I believe the later XP's may have some kind of automatic shutdown thing
installed which will turn itself off if it ges too hot - I may well be
wrong. Even if it does, without a HSF, the temperatures would rise
ridiculously high within seconds of turning it on.

Under no circumstances try it without an HSF installed - unless you fancy
buying a new processor

Actually, 'dry ice' is frozen carbon dioxide.
