Beeping BIOS and intermittent monitor problem

Hi all

Am running a normally very stable Dell Dimension 4100 PIII 800 with XP
Home, 386mb RAM and a D971 monitor with an NVidia GForce 2MX card.

For no reason at all (i.e. no recent major system changes)I get a
beeping sound at boot up and the monitor fails to ignite. The PC is
clearly booting as I hear my scanner wake up normally etc etc. Switch
the PC off at the CPU and try again and the monitor wakes in the usual
way, after cancelling the Disk scan imposed for irregular shutdown.

Anyone any ideas where to start? Dying video card maybe...?

All suggestions gratefully appreciated!

Cheers

Tim

Is it a long beep, three short beeps etc?

Do you know what kind of bios you have? Try using this "CPU-Z"
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php to identify your bios.

I don't think your video card is failing if it was it would cause a
system halt and th computer would not get past the POST.

hope this helps

Hi

BIOS: Intel Corp A06

It's a series of beeps - may be 3+. Will count'em next time! Have
downloaded latest driver, as of course this might be it. Thanks

Sounds like the video card might need it's edge connector cleaned. A
pencil eraser works well!

When you find out how many beeps you might head over to
http://bioscentral.com/
and try and find you bios beep codes.

You may also try and reseat your graphics card and / or clean the
graphics card connector. It could be just loose and/or dirty. I
would use a lintless rag and rubbing alcohol. Just make sure you take
precautions for static.

good luck
