I recently updated my drivers for my 8800 GTX card and now find that
almost all my games start with a black screen now - the audio works
however so I know the game is booting. I have tried the usual
suspects like a Directx upgrade, reinstall of drivers, etc.

Any thoughts ? I am convinced it's driver-related

While in a perfect world I could roll back, its not that simple - many
of the games I play have indicated they require a driver upgrade so i
am stuck with the newer drivers from Nvidia. It's particularly
frustartining since I really want to enjoy my games.

Any additional solutions ?

Worth checking a game site a similar issue came up with UT and patches were
posted along with other solutions can you use open GL instead of directX?

So what's the solution?
I have a 7900 GS and am having this same problem off and on for a few
weeks and seems to be almost permanent now. Tried new driver - no joy.
Tired of rebooting the computer in order to be able to browse and mail
after trying to play UR, etc games.
