ahh what the hell, I'll take a crack at it...
who made the memory? I recall one particular module I had that went out
about... almost half a year ago now. just for the hell of it, check out
http://www.memtest.org they have a VERY good memory diagnostic util. I
found problems in that module, and I kept running that module for about
a week (the amount of time it took for my double replacement to come).
In addition, I had a problem (and I hope to hell you don't) with my
processor (a later, unrelated incident) that resulted in me losing about
300 USD just to troubleshoot and replace. I have no doubts as to the
quality with which ASUS makes their motherboards, and Maxtor is among
the most trustworthy distributors of hard drives. if its not a problem
with any drivers (check with the manufacturers, Micro$oft is no one's
friend), then try memtest if things are still shaky.
If memtest finds no problems, but freezes while running, it might be the
processor. If memtest runs flawlessly but finds errors in your memory
module, RMA the damn thing if its still under warranty, finally, if
memtest runs flawlessly and finds NO flaws in your memory module, it
might be a problem with another piece of hardware. hopefully one that
you can replace for relatively cheap.
