Could someone please tell me what the boot sequence should be by default
(like when I bought my pc) as I've changed it and sort of screwed it up I've
tried every permutation I can think of, but I keep having to press the F1
key at bootup as it's looking for a floppy drive....'which I don't
physically have, and I've removed it (apparently) from the boot sequence in
the setup, but windows say it's there.

Joe.

I have a Dell Dim 9200 : 2 x 160GB SATAs Raid0 Stripe : DVD Writer : No
Floppy Drive : Win XP MCE

-F2 into BIOS

-ALT+F to default BIOS settings

-Arrow down and disable diskette drive under "drives" listing

- ESC to exit and save changes......

have you tried disabling the floppy in the bios?
that should do it.
i would also set the boot order to hard drive, then cdrom, then floppy
last. booting will be the fastest.

if you need to boot from a cd, then simply hit f12 after you turn it on
and you will get a start menu. then you can pick the cd from that list.
