Brain Transplant Query

I have an Intel D865PERL motherboard that has a 2.8 GHz chip installed. I
wish to upgrade to a faster chip but am confused. My manual that came with
the motherboard says that the board will support a 3,0 GHz chip while on
Intel's site it says my board will support a 3.4 GHz chip at max. Which is
correct?? I don't want to blow my motherboard with the wrong chip and hav
found a 3.4 GHz for a little over a $100 bucks. Can someone help?
