Just buitl a P5k Premium system with the following:

3 i Gig sticks of ram

Q6600 Quad core CPU
Radeon PCIE x1600 Video Card
700 Watt Power supply

Connected via vga to a samsung 22 inch widescreen.

I just for the first time powered up, nothing on monitor, not even a beep,
Green light on Motherboard is on though.

I've built a dozen systems in the past, haven't a clue as to why this wont
power up.

Any help Appreciated

jeff

ADDENDUM

I have three gigs of memory installed.

When I removed the third stvk in DIMM "B" it powered on.

I thought under a 32 bit OS 3 GIG of ram is supported.

I even switched the third stick to the black socket on Dimm B still no boot,
but yet again, removing the third stick allowed the system to boot.

Can someone explain how to use 3 gigs Properly?

i'm using Kingston PC2 6400 800 MHZ part # KV800D2/1GR

Thnx

jeff

Addendum 2

It seems after just entering the bios and then shutting off, and then
inserting the memory in A1 A2 And B1 it posts with the 3 gigs.

Just wondering why it didn't initially

Not sure why but you do know this mb is designed to take advantage of dual
channel memory, right? By putting in 3x1gb sticks you are losing dual
channel memory operation as dual channel requires that you install memory
in matching pairs. I have P5K with 4x1gb sticks installed and is running
in dual channel mode. You want to install either 2x1gb or 4x1gb and the
memory timings should be matching for each pair or else dual channel might
not work.

read the P5K forum on Asus web site

So since I have three 1 gig sticks in 3 out of the four sockets and the
system reads 3 GB ram, doers this mean its treated as single channel?

Am I better off removing a stick and downgrading to 2 GB ram?

Yes, you are running just single channel with 3x1gb. Not many apps need 3gb
and you will get dual channel with 2x1gb. I only installed 4gb for Vista
64bit.

Sure is a popular mb for one that has a poor "history". Of course you will
see tech issues at Asus website as that is why people go there. Only
speaking for myself, but my P5K has been rock solid for me. I don't have
deluxe or wi-fi version, just basic P5K so perhaps that is why I have no
issues.

Is there a world of diff between running in single channel mode vs dual
channel mode.

Is 2GB dual channel much better than 3 GB dual channel mode?

It also says in control panel under system :" Physical Address Extension"
reporting my 3 Gigs of memory

Is my system being limited as 1 channel by having three 1 gig sticks in the
lsots?
