If it is FAT 32 by default after I buy, can I change it to NTFS for Tablet PC
Edition?

The install will more than likely be NTFS, however, even if it is FAT32,
there's no need to use Partition Magic to convert to NTFS. You can
simply use:

convert <driveletter>: /fs:ntfs

Convert.exe comes with the OS.

As Paul said, it is pretty easy to convert, but I honestly haven't seen a
Tablet PC that isn't NTFS. If the occasion arises, go into Help and Support
and do a Search for "convert" without the quotes. You'll see all the
instructions for the different switches, etc., in the two responses.

As others have said, it will almost certainly already be NTFS. But
irregardless, you can use the built in convert OR Partition Magic if you have
a license for that. Personally, I'd probably use Partition Magic, and also do
some re-partitioning at the same time, creating a C: and D: drive to
segregate my OS from my programs and data. Makes it easier to recover if you
need to, and easier to only back up what you really need to back up. Just
make sure you leave a nice, big OS drive. These days, I find 10Gb a rock
bottom minimum, and 20Gb about right. Even with that, I then move My
Documents off to the data drive, as well as Temporary Internet Files and
anything else I can easily move.

All Acer Tablet PC's come formatted as FAT32 and have to be converted to
NTFS (but will lose the recovery repair from the hidden partition doing so).

Hmmm. The only Acer I ever had was NTFS, but that was a pre-release version
that had been through several hands, so anything was possible.

Frankly, I don't think anyone should be using FAT32 for anything any more.

Just for the statistics:
My Acer TabletPC (and also the acer notebook of my friend) came preinstalled
with FAT32 partitions.
I can't tell why acer sell their TabletPCs with FAT32.
But convert.exe did its job well.

My Acer C111 came as FAT32 - losing the recovery partition doesn't particular
bother me - I prefer a manual build anyway.

Wow. This is true. My Acer C111 has 2 FAT32 partitions and one FAT!
The FAT is 8MB and has no drive letter, and in the GUI Disk Management
tool it looks like:

ACER (C 46.10 GB
ACERDATA (D 9.76 GB
ACER_SERVIC 8 MB

Yep, complete with missing "E" in service.

So my question is, can CONVERT allow me to recover the fragmented
partitions? For the sake of simplicity, one would think that a single
NTFS partition would be the way to go, no? If CONVERT can't do it, then
back to the original question: can I do this with Partition Magic?

Thanks!

The Acerdata and Acer_Servic files are where Acer has placed its "recovery"
or "system" files. And, no, converting to NTFS will only convert the C:
drive. You would need to do a full format of the hard drive to eliminate
those files/partitions. BTW - My Acer C100 was NTFS when I received it.
