Hi

I've got a Dell Dimension 9200, 2-3 month old.
Some time ago I wanted to restore the PC to a earlier point of tim
using the Norton Ghost trial software incuded in the delivery.
One of the reason was that the PC has been unstable, more or less,
since I've got it. It frooze aprox once an hour and I had to restart i
by pulling the power cord.

I then started the Norton Ghost recover procedure. The PC rebooted.
I the discoverd that my Dell can't find my C:\ and D:\ partitions. C:
is my system and D:\ is where a stored the Norton Ghost recover
files.
It was however possible to see the utility partion and the origina
recovery partion.
If I plugged my USB disk this was also possible to see.

To see if it was Norton Ghost that played me a trick I then booted wit
a number ot other CDs such as Acronis True Image. There was n
difference.
I still couldn't see c: and d:.

I have had a long mail conversation with dell support but thay ar
unable to help. (Or don't want to)
Norton support argues that is in the partition table that are damage.
From a usenet group i've got the idea that it is the master boo
reccord that is corrupted.

A total recovery from the hidden Dell partion was possible however.
That solved my problem with froozen PC but not the problem to see c
and d:

Is anyone in this forum able to help out?

//Joh

See:

for an exhaustive description of the restore partition.

In addition, how are you trying to start the restore?

At the Dell logo, press CTRL+F11. It will restore to factory fresh.

It DOES wipe out anything you've installed and ALL your data

Hello

Thanks for Your answer.

I am able to make a total restore to the "as delivered" status.
The Norton Ghost revovery console can find the Dell restore partitio
as well as the utility partition.
But It can't find the C: and D: partition. C: is my system partiton an
D: is where the recovery point are stored. Both are needed to recover t
"last week" status or last month, and so on.

I have read Dan Goodell site and is gives me the information that it'
probably not the DSR process that are the problem.
On Dans site he has a ISO file that You can download and burn to a CD.
You should then be able to boot from that and do some repai work.
But... the system halts and message that there are some sort of MB
error.
