Using K8N Neo Platinum mainboard with NVIDIA nForce 3 250GB chipset
(MS-7030, v.1.) Have both serial & parallel ATA drives. Have installed Win
XP Home to both drives (separately, of course!), but after WIN XP finishes
its installation, it hangs on the "Windows Is Starting Up" screen when
attempting to use the SATA drive. Using the PATA drive, no problem. Have the
latest driver updates, v1.3 BIOS. I'd be grateful for any suggestions. The
SATA drive is a Western Digital WD740-GD, 74 GB.

Thanks!! Lee

I've heard about this. When you bought the MSI motherboard it should
have come with a SATA disk, now I've heard during the WIN XP
installation that you press F6 or something (somewhere around when it
asks you to install other devices and stuff) and you install the SATA
program-thing. I dont know if its correct, ive read it somewhere... I
have not finished my pc purchase, so i havent gone through that
experience. (Im also about to use SATA for the first time)
Hope that helps

Gabriel

Thanks, Gabriel. I found the problem; it wasn't related to the motherboard,
but due to a misunderstanding as to how I should use the Acronis True Image
program to migrate to a different hard drive. Thanks to their quick &
detailed response, all is well now.

Pressing F6 to install the RAID drivers would be necessary if I were using a
RAID configuration, but I have only a single SATA drive.

Not allways the case, depends on controler. If using F6 the drivers have to
be installed from floppy, not cd.
