Nah, won't do it. Unfortunately, the drivers for the Microsoft HD
Universal Audio Architecture (which you need as a foundation to apply
the Dell sites' Creative or Sigmatel drivers, aren't available for
easy download. You need to put a call in to Microsoft Product
Services, or scour the net for unofficial downloads for it. Note the
install executable is different depending on OS and service pack
revision, just to be doubly annoying.
See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111 and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/835221/
I've done this a couple of times: once, I phoned MS and got the driver
(although it took a while until I quoted specific KB numbers to them)
and the other time I bodged it by extracting the driver from the Intel
package:
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...ProductID=1861
alternately, try
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...os=228&lang=en
Download, extract, then go into device manager, double-click the
unknown audio device and point it at the folder you saved the extract
to. Once you've done this Windows should do the "discovered new
device" thing, at which point you can run the Creative/Sigmatel
install to get it to actually work.
