My classmates and I installed an MSI PM8M2-V motherboard and installed
a Maxtor SATA HD 100GB; however, when installing Windows XP Pro SP1,
the BIOS and CMOS are not recognized. We checked the connections, but
to no avail -- please help! Thanks

You have to have a driver floppy or CD while installing XP to recognize the
SATA.
At one point during install, you have to hit a function key to allow the
install to load
the SATA drivers from the floppy or CD.

F6 ...

are you also saying that the bios does not detect the drive? If thats the
case, feeding XP the driver for the SATA controller wont get you where you
need to be.

XP doesn't use the BIOS.
