CD/DVD Drive in HP Pavillion Will read DVD but not recognize CD - Help!

I have a 800 MHz HP Pavilion Notebook which includes a CD/DVD combo unit.
After reinstall of Millennium Operating System the Toshiba - CD/DVD-ROM
Model SD-C2502 drive will no longer read a CD placed in the drive, although
it will read a DVD. Can anyone help me figure out if this is a physical
problem or a driver issue.
