I have 2 Chaintech 6ATA2 motherboards. I have 2 network cards on each, SMC
EtherPower II 10/100. Both systems will boot just fine. When I try to
install an OS on them (Windows XP Pro or SuSE Linux 9.3 & 10.0) the
installation will freeze during the process. They freeze during the initial
reboot after the installation. Also, if I run Memtest86 (v3.2) it locks up
as soon as I get the Memtest banner to show up on the screen.
The boards use AWARD BIOS. I updated the BIOS today from the latest
available from Phoenix (I purchased it today). There was no change.
I did some further hardware troubleshooting. It turns out that the problem
is caused by having two network interface cards installed on the
motherboard. If I take one out (it doesn't matter which) everything works
fine...no lock ups. I even tried to pair on of the SMC cards with a Linksys
card and I got the same lock ups. I have tried disabling every onboard
feature (USB, Sound, IDE Controllers, etc...), but there is no difference. I
have tried to manually assign an IRQ to each of the slots the NICs are in,
but no difference.
My question is, is it possible to run a Chaintech 6ATA2 motherboard with two
network interface cards installed? If so, what do I need to do (in BIOS or
otherwise) to make it happen?
Thank you.
