Changing Graphics Card on HP Pavilon 7919

I have the Pavilon 7919 (UK model - Windows ME) which has just 8MB on
board graphics. My son likes to play games and now needs more power in
that
department.
I want to install a 64 MB card - however I am not sure how the on
board
adaptor is disabled. Looking through earlier threads relating to
similar
models, there seems to be consensus that it's just a case of plugging
the
card in, disabling the on board with the hardware manager, and
powering
up with the new card.
Anyone care to comment - or someone actually upgraded this particular
model? Hints and tips appreciated!
Klaus

As far as I can tell, the threads that you read are correct. That m/b (Maui) has a VIA chipset that
usually lends itself to being shut down from the Control Panel. I note that there is a setting in
the BIOS area for the 'onboard video memory', however, I am not sure that you could change it from
its preset. On the flip side, there isn't any BIOS setting for the onboard that needs to be
'disabled', only to set it to 'AGP' (preferable) or 'PCI'. I also might note, your system has a
rather underpowered power supply (185w.), do check the power requirements of any card that you would
try to install, as it just won't work if there's not enough power for it. I have a manual in .pdf
format for that m/b, if you want it, I can email it to you...luck...

Hi Chukie(?), thanks for offering - can you send the manual please.
Can't make your email work .... The PC only came with a basic manual.

Will send that right along, my email here is 'munged', that is, phony, as I don't want to get
deluged with SPAM. For future reference, will work nicely. I note you have a
hotmail addy also, I hope it will allow the attachment, if not email me and I will resend...luck...
