Clean install

Hope someone can tell me what command to watch after restarting with the
WinXP cd in the drive in order to wipe the C: drive clean and reinstall
WinXP. I don't want to do a repair. Thanks.

You want to delete the existing partition, create a new partition, then format
the new partition. That will wipe out the old copy of XP... Ben Myers

Ben: Yes. I have a partition (E on my C: drive which I don't use and
would just as soon do away with. What I want is to completely erase XP
which is corrupt and reinstall.

Efdisk from MasterBooter handles all sorts of partitions:

Can erase them all. If you want to go even further, download a utility from
the HD manf that writes zeros to the disk.

You want to click on choices that say install, not repair!
The XP disk will format the drive and even allow you to create partitions.

Looks like I can keep the existing partition as is. Don't want to create a

Nope! You never have to reformat! Just rename the Windows and Programs
folders and if something goes wrong, just rename them back. Although if
everything goes fine, just delete them

Yeah, sure, but the OP originally said he wanted to wipe the drive clean.
Leaving an old Windows install in place is exactly wiping the drive clean, is
it? Further, installing Windows in another folder simply confuses the issue
when the time comes to troubleshoot any problems. Given that we are talking
Windows here, that time may come in the next 5 minutes... Ben

Anyway, Windows XP improves on its predecessors by offering a quick format
option which takes hardly any time at all, and still wipes the drive clean
logically, if not physically... Ben Myers
