I have an Inspiron 2200. I’m getting a new keyboard because of the
wearing out of some
letters.

However, I have a new problem. The left click is getting difficult. By
that I mean the spot
just below the keypad (there is a left and right click, equivalent to
the left and right click
on a mouse). I’m not sure of the proper terminology.

Is this part of the keyboard. If not, how can I fix this? I suspect it
is just getting worn or
perhaps just some crud somewhere?

Hi!

How much clicking and typing are you doing? It sounds like a lot!

If the button doesn't work, a cheap fix would be to tap the pad after
enabling the "tap to click" feature.

The touchpad is usually part of the palmrest assembly, remove that and
you'll be able to see the cabling, the buttons and the circuit board for the
pad itself. It will unplug from the motherboard.

Crud buildup is a possibility. Those little microswitches tend to last a
long, long time although I have seen them wear out much sooner than they
should have.

I have a lightly used 2 yo 1505 laptop on which the right click on the
touch pad stopped working shortly after I gave it to my daughter. I
prefer a mouse. For the time being, we created a hot spot on the
touchpad to perform the right click.
