Hi,
I'm not very knowledgeable about computers but on occsion I get the
above message on booting up my pc. If this has to do with the CMOS
battery, can my system run without it ? I use my pc 99% of the time for
web surfing. If it's just the date/time how do I remove it ? Getting
tired of clock re-setting. Thanks all.

Best,

John

John, Most Motherboards are set up so that the first thing that
happens when the CMOS battery goes down below a certain voltage is to
start losing the Time and Date. Some later boards will tell you the
Battery Voltage in Setup. It should be above about 2.5 volts. The next
thing that happens is that the CMOS will lose all data and your
computer will begin to have problems booting. You have about 30
minutes to change the battery as the CMOS will retain the data for
approximately that time running on the capacitors in the circuit. Get
a battery at RADIO Shack of the same number as the one in the
Computer. Your manual may give the number. It is usually a 3 volt,
lithium, CR2032. It's round about the size of a quarter and a little
thicker. Jim

The battery runs your BIOS; you have to have it.
