I have a Compaq SR1230NX desktop machine I would like to move up to
Vista. Is this thing upgradeable. It primarily requires a new video
card and CPU according to MS's Upgrade advisor..
Would I be better off just buying a new computer with Vista already
installed.

Any upgrade to handle Vista is likely to not work out well. The SR1230NX is
limited to 1GB of memory, enough to run Vista, but not quite compfortably. The
built-in video would have to be replaced with a PCI graphics card, 128MB memory
preferred.

Stick with what you've got, or simply buy a computer with Vista. It is with
good reason that I continue to call Vista "the hardware sales act of 2007."

True, the MS Upgrade advisor did say my cpu was adequate (barely) but
my AGP 128MB Xabre video card with SiS drivers would not cut it. Not
if I wanted to run Aero. Recommendations are pricey (I suspect that
graphics cards are inflated right now due to Vista, like
RAM was with Win 95's release) Oh well. Thanks for the honest reply.
