All of this is familiar to me. My computer just stopeed working one
day. It would boot up, let out a repeated beeping sequence, and repeat
until I pulled the plug. Upon investigation, a light on my motherboard
called OVER was on. Checking the manual, this was the overheating
mechanism. I checked the bottom of the heatsink, and discovered that
most of the TIM was gone. I put the computer in the shop, and that is
where it has been for 10 days now. Try getting a new heatsink, or at
least lap the old one. Then, apply Arctic Silver thermal compound.
That should help a little. If not, try installing more case fans. By
the way, my computer suffering overheating is an AMD Athlon XP 2000+
with default heatsink, custom built.
