I didn't even think this could happen, every once in a while my computer
fails to load WinXP Pro correctly. When I turn the power off then on again
(won't shut down on its own) and the computer goes into WinXP its then set
to a different time and a totally random year. This happens once every 6
months possibly? I've replaced the battery twice in 5yrs thinking it might
be the problem but to no avail. The battery holder on the motherboard isn't
exactly in its best condition a bang could probably mislodge it. I've hard
formated then reloaded WinXP Pro numerous times thinking I had virus. Anyone
got a clue? thanks.

I'm just guessing, but what about a BIOS that has been mucked up somehow?
Or a motherboard going down the toilet? Unless you've somehow physically
damaged the battery holder it should be in perfect condition and stay that
way for ages. Batteries should last for years. Many years. A friend has a
system running Windows 3.1 no less, and has never changed the battery. I
have never changed a battery on any of the numerous systems I have owned
over the years.

"9999", are you operating in some Dune parallel universe?
