connecting two computers together

i want to connect both my computers together so we can be on the
internet at the same time useing one phone line connection. I have a
new emachines computer with xp and a compaq with windows 98 2nd
edition.the compaq has a intel 8255-based pci ethenet adapter [10/100]
the emachien is a t2682. i want the emachine to be the base.thack you
