Convertor, Regulator and Switch?

Hi?

first, plz understand me for not being good at English.

I'm freshman in hardware. When I design for power portion, I got power
IC called 'Convertor', 'Regulator', 'Switch' and so on..

Could you tell me that a kind of Power IC and the function of that?
