The CPU temps of my Athlon 2700+ is running about 10 deg C higher than the
1800+ ran, 52 vs 42 at a room temperature in the high 70s. I have also gone
from a fanless ATI 9250 to a fan-equipped ATI 9600XT and from a fanless to a
fan-equipped northbridge heatsink. The case temp now runs 40-43 and the CPU
temp 11-12 deg higher. Heatsink is an all copper unit and hasn't changed.
The tower case has in inlet fan in front and exhaust fan in rear buy I know
that the vents in the front of the case impede airflow (I pulled the front
off and the CPU temp dropped 3-4 deg C).

Questions: does a 52 deg C CPU temp seem high? The computer is on about 10
hrs per day.

No. That's about right for your setup but if you wish, you could try to
increase
the area of the front vents. I did on my case and about tripled it!

I sawed a couple of cuts down into the front plastic and then wiggled the
'tounge' until it fractured and gave me a much enlarged vent. This reduces
the amount of room air being inducted through the floppy and optical
drives, too. This was located on the front panel underneath, so there's
no visual impact from the mod.
