Please read this whole thing, for the best understanding, and please,
please help!
I had an Abit KT7 / Thunderbird 1.1Ghz system with an SBLive! 5.1
card, for a few years. When I decided to upgrade, I was having
frequent 'rebooting' or 'freezing' problems with that machine, and
decided to build a brand new one. I built a "new" (Jan 2003) AthlonXP
2100 system with an Abit KX7-333. Hoping to save some money, I pulled
the SBLive! card out of one system and put it in the other.
The same problem seemed to occur again. I've done everything from
added cooling to reformats, latest firmware revisions, and even
different OS's (WinME/2K/XP), swapped out RAM, and ran 'memtest86' for
hours on end.
I'm VERY short on cash, but I've been hunting for an Audigy (hearing
from others that the Audigy didn't have the same problems the LIVE
cards did, similar to my 'lock up' issue), and finally found one the
other day for an astoundingly low price ($30, retail). So I picked it
up, and decided I would give my machine the ultimate test.
I yanked the SBLive, rebooted, cleaned the registry (using an older
version of jv16 powertools' regcleaner) and played Doom 3 in silence.
Twenty minutes later, not a single problem.
I installed the Audigy, started playing, and in less than ten minutes,
every time, it hard locks with sound repeating; it hard locks with a
few more blips and bleeps in high pitches, then freezes; or the entire
machine just reboots, screen goes black, monitor spins down, and even
the power supply sounds like a little energy disipates.
I've tried everything, I made sure I had the latest drivers, firmware,
and BIOS. I've unplugged as much hardware as possible to make sure
it's not a power issue. Other games seem to run fine, but some times
the other games will give me the same exact problem. I haven't been
able to put my finger on it for over a year. Will someone please
rescue me!
SPECS:

Any help is so very greatly appreciated!
