Dead or stuck pixel on HP w2007 monitor?

On my monitor, there is a small (about the size of a pen head), white
dot on my screen. I can only see this dot against a white, or light-blue
background. Anything darker and the spot is invisible.

Does this sound like a dead (which cannot be fixed) or stuck pixel?

I've tried several programs and websites that use JavaScript gadgets or
flashing videos to fix stuck pixels, but none of them has worked.

Sounds like that is what you have. I had a similar problem with one of
my monitors, a 17" Dell. The pixel was red. No amount of various
contortions would get rid of it. I finally chose a background which had
some red in the lower right hand corner and now I don't see it at all ...

HTH, YMMV, LSMFT

Yes, I've read that and similar instructions on the web.

a.. Turn off your computer's monitor.
a.. Get yourself a damp washcloth, so that you don't scratch your screen.
a.. Take a household pen, pencil, screwdriver, or some other sort of
instrument with a focused, but relatively dull, point. A very good tool
would be a PDA stylus.
a.. Fold the washcloth to make sure you don't accidentally puncture it and
scratch the screen.
a.. Apply pressure through the folded washcloth with the instrument to
exactly where the stuck pixel is. Try not to put pressure anywhere else, as
this may make more stuck pixels.

These instructions confuse me. If I turn off the monitor, how am I
supposed to find the dead/stuck pixel? I can only see it when the monitor
is on, against a white, or light-colored background.

I have a dead vertical line from top to bottom. Is there any resolution for
that? This is well beyond warranty, so that's not an issue or option.

Looks like your Return key is stuck too.
Google got 5 copies of your reply.

Odds are the stuck vertical raster is not an LCD panel
problem per se, but either a connection or line driver chip
problem.

There's even a remote chance it's in the frame buffer
in the PC. Rule that out by trying a different resolution
or hooking the monitor to a different PC.

You could disassemble the monitor and reseat all
connectors. Also look for broken traces leading to
that vertical raster line at the panel. I would not
recommend using the wiki whack-a-window wepair.

All LCD monitors eventually fail, and will do so differently
than CRTs did. What you are seeing may be one of the
ways. I'm guessing backlight fade or failure is more common.
