Decided to buy a new A8N-SLI as a replacement and I'm replacing the chipset fan, but...

I forgot how I got the stock fan off. I has two little push-through
pins that I think I can break off...but....? Help and advice please?

I think the OP is referring to the chipset HS, not the main CPU.

Normally the push-pins have to be released from the back of the board
(they have various sorts of 'barb' arrangements to keep them in),
although sometimes you can just cut them with snips and push the
remnants through - sort of depends whether you may need them again, and
how much clearance you have behind, if the board is already in the case.

Got it, pushed them further through and used nail cutters...putting
the Swiftech heatsink/fan on. Thx guys....G

Be careful cutting or pushing them through the bottom of the
motherboard. I used neednose pliers to pinch them for removal &
scratched the micro-etchings in the circuit board beneath the
motherboard. Luckily I don't think I damaged anything.
